IMPORTANT: Psychology Department Graduation 2019 (RSVP HERE) | Ceremony on 05/29/19

The Psychology Department graduation will be held at Colden Auditorium on Wednesday evening May 29th . Doors for Colden open at 6:15pm and the ceremony is scheduled to begin at 7pm

Ceremony Information for Psychology GRADUATES:

  •    Psychology graduates will meet inside Goldstein Theater (the other theater adjacent to Colden Auditorium). SEE MAP BELOW

Please plan to arrive at 6 PM to join the line-up.  The procession will begin promptly at 7pm.

  • Graduating students should be dressed in cap & gown.   Graduating students do not need a ticket.
  •  At our ceremony, graduating students will walk across the stage and have their name called.  Please remember to bring your NAME CARD with you to the ceremony. You will need to bring the card on stage and hand it to the presenter who will then announce your name.    Feel free to write your name out phonetically (as it sounds), so that it will be pronounced correctly.

Ceremony Information for your GUESTS:

Colden Auditorium is located at the corner of Kissena Blvd. and the service road of the Long Island Expressway (Horace Harding).

  • Please remind your guests to bring their TICKETS.   Colden Security will not allow anyone to enter Colden without a ticket (due to fire safety codes, even infants need a ticket).
  • Guests will enter Colden Auditorium through the Main Entrance (front doors near the box office).  The doors will be opened to guests at 6:15 PM.

Seating is unassigned (first come, first serve).   Please ask your guests to avoid seating areas reserved for Graduates, which are marked by signs.

We were able to confirm that Parking Lots 15S and 15N will be open. These are the two parking lots closest to Colden, on Reeves Avenue.  They are visible on the top right hand corner of the map provided below. Please advise your guests to leave plenty of time for parking, and arrive early, as the lots may fill up.

  • Please ask your guests to remain seated throughout the entire ceremony (approximately 90 minutes to 2 hours). Out of respect for your fellow graduates, please plan on remaining for the entire ceremony.
  • Very important:  Please remind your guests not to block any aisles or entrances.  Guests are welcome to take photographs, as long as they do not block any aisles.  Professional photographers will be on the stage, taking photographs available for purchase after the ceremony to those who are interested.  We want this to be a happy and safe event for everyone.  All strollers, carriages, etc. will have to be left in the main lobby area of Colden Auditorium until the end of the Ceremony.

No refreshments will be served at the Psychology ceremony.    Water fountains and restrooms are available in the main lobby.

FAQs for Psychology Department Graduation Ceremony

Where is the Psychology Department ceremony?
Colden Auditorium, which is located at the corner of Kissena Blvd. and the service road of the Long Island Expressway (Horace Harding).  Guests will enter Colden Auditorium through the Main Entrance (front doors near the box office).  Graduating students will be given instructions closer to the event date concerning line-up location.

What time should my guests arrive?

Do I need a ticket?
No, Graduating students do not need a ticket. However, you must RSVP for the ceremony (see above link).

What happens at the Psychology Department Ceremony?
At our ceremony, graduating students will walk across the stage and have their name called.  When you come to pick up your tickets (dates TBA), you will receive a NAME CARD in the envelope along with your tickets.  You will need to bring the name card on stage and hand it to the presenter who will then announce your name.

How will the announcer know how to pronounce my name?   
When you submit your RSVP, you will have the option to write your name out phonetically (write it as it sounds) so that it will be pronounced correctly.

Will the event be photographed?
Yes, there will be a professional photographer on stage.  If you want to be contacted by the photographer to receive proofs after the ceremony for purchase, then please fill out your contact information when you submit your RSVP.  The Campus Photographer is:   Island Photography

Can my guests take photographs? 
Yes, guests are welcome to take photographs; but due to fire safety codes, please advise guests that they must keep aisles clear at all times, and remain seated.

Can my guests park on campus? 
We were able to confirm that Parking Lots 15S and 15N will be open. I also want to attend the College-wide Commencement ceremony….
This is a separate event and will be held the day after the Psychology Dept ceremony.  College Commencement event is scheduled for Thursday, May 30th.  Students must RSVP separately to the Commencement Office, and can find all the information you need about the other event here:
